While the other Types of Waste all belong to the process, the waste “Skills, not used” means not using all the intellectual power available within the organization for solving problems, improving processes and avoiding mistakes. Lean means especially involving all eyes, ears, and brains of people who are close to the process and therefore know the process better than anyone else.

Examples:

  • Operators not involved in process improvement
  • Operators not involved in technical changeovers
  • Not talking with everybody about mistakes
