The word “Ergonomics” derives from two Greek words:
- ergon, meaning work
- nomos, meaning rules
In the context of Workstation Design, ergonomics basically means that we need to adjust the job to the worker. In other words, we need to design the workstation, especially so as to reduce operator fatigue, discomfort, and injury.
Important principles of ergonomics to consider in Workstation Design are:
- Desk Height
- Working Position (Standing or Sitting)
- Working Area
- Vision and Light
- Desk Layout
- Material Handling
