An Activity Flowchart is a process map that does not just show actions, but also decisions and feedback loops. It is a great tool to show the process complexity, to visualize how a process should work, and to analyze which loops and decisions could be the root causes for delays in your process.

Activity Flowchart

Step by step:

  1. Do a basic process map and highlight decisions
  2. Add arrows and make sure that decisions have at least 2 labeled outputs
  3. Check for Completeness (closed loops, all paths leading somewhere,…)
  4. Optional: Draw the chart electronically, e.g. with Microsoft Visio
